Overview of the city

Shantou sometimes is also known as Santow is a coastal city located in the eastern coast of Guangdong in China and it is an economic zone as well in Guangdong province. The city is having a population of around 5.5 million people. The city though did not flourish like other major cities such as Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Xiamen but it is the major economic Centre of eastern Guangdong and a home to Shantou University. During the 80s it was designated with intent to make it as one of the China’s special economic zones exempting taxes and encourage development on key areas.


Tourist attractions

  • The city is famous for lots of tourist attraction and leaves a perennial impact on visitors with bewitching views and attractions including Shantou Times Square light show, Shipaotai Park, Nan’ao Island, it’s the most beautiful island in Guangdong.


  • There are Museum as well such as cultural revolution museum, the only museum which is dedicated to the cultural revolution, Shantou founding museum is a history museum entirely devoted to the Swatow it is also known as Shantou museum. Some other places are also worth visiting such as Dr. sun yat-Sen memorial pavilion and old town of Swatow.


Food

  • Shantou offers numerous varieties of local food which is famous in the whole china as well including beef ball, seafood and bakes oyster cakes.


  • Lianhua vegetarian restaurant is located on the Haibin road, Dayang group building. It is a vegetarian restaurant which serves the various veg dishes and also popular in Chaozhou.
