Shantou China Events
A new international collaboration is underway to forge a new partnership between Shantou University and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in China. ShantOU University is located at the intersection of two converging geographical advantages - the South China Sea and Taiwan - in the heart of one of the world's most important cities. The city is located across the South China Sea and the islands of Taiwan in a metropolitan region called Chaoshan and lies between several major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Guangdong, as well as the capital of Guangxi Province.
The Embassy and Consular Districts include the Embassy of the Republic of China and the Consulate General of Taiwan in Shantou, as well as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). The consular district includes the embassies of Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, Japan and South Korea. It is the largest built-up area in the South China Sea with a population of more than 1.5 million people.
Travellers who prefer to travel to the Chinese coast can rent a car, take a taxi or buy a ticket from China Travel Service HK. Chaoyang Railway Station is located on the Xiamen - Shenzhen Railway Line, and express buses take passengers overseas. The Shantou Railway Station is under construction and is located between Guangzhou - Meizhou and ShantOU. Buses can be boarded at the airport or from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) or Guangdong Airport Express Bus Terminal.
High speed trains departing from Xiamen are one of the fastest ways to get to Shantou and will take you from Guangzhou - Meizhou, Guangdong - Shenzhen Railway Station or Guangxi - GuangDong Railway Station Terminal.
O foreign visitors are not common in rural areas of Shantou, so expect non-Chinese ethnic groups to definitely be an attraction for residents. The Mandarin system of middle-level education, which is widespread in China, enables most people, especially the younger generation, to speak Mandarin fluently. Elsewhere in mainland China, standard Mandarin is the only language taught in schools, and all educated people speak Mandarin fluently. If you are a Mandarin-speaking foreigner, you can communicate with locals and get around as most services have Mandarin-speaking staff.
In 2012, we decided to build Shantou University together and deepen the reforms to make it a well-known university at a high level. In recent years, it has reformed the traditional way of education and its business school, which has seen the school rise and develop rapidly over the years, attracting increasing attention from the top candidates.
The 3rd AYG Shantou 2021 will end with a youth-oriented multi-sport event, which is expected to be confirmed in the coming months with the participation of more than 2,000 athletes.
The US Consulate in Guangzhou is located in the Teochew enclave of Shantou, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in China's Guangdong Province. The city is also located on the border between China and Hong Kong, just a few kilometers from the city center.
